Dispositifs semi-conducteurs Résumé : In this paper, we propose a novel two-pass rate control algorithm to achieve constant quality for H.264/AVC high definition video coding.
With the first-pass collected rate and distortion information and the built model of scene complexity, the encoder can determine the expected distortion which could be achieved in the second-pass encoding under the target bit rate.
According to the built linear distortion-quantizer (D-Q) model, before encoding one frame, the quantization parameter can be solved to realize constant quality encoding.
After encoding one frame, the model parameters will be updated with linear regression method to ensure the prediction accuracy of the quantization parameter of next encoded frame with the same coding type.
In order to obtain the expected distortion of each frame under the target bit rate, a GOP-level bit allocation scheme is also designed to adjust the target bit rate of each GOP based on the scene complexity of the GOP in the second-pass encoding.
In addition, the effect of scene change on the updating of D-Q model is considered.
The model will be re-initialized at the scene change to minimize modeling error.
The experimental results show that compared with the latest two-pass rate control algorithm, our proposed algorithm can significantly improve the bit control accuracy at comparable coding performance in terms of constant quality and average PSNR.
On average, the improvement of bit control accuracy achieved about 90%.DEWEY : 361.382 ISSN : 0923-5965 En ligne : http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=PublicationURL&_tockey=%23TOC%235640%23 [...] [article] A two-pass rate control algorithm for H.264/AVC high definition video coding [texte imprimé] / Dongdong Zhang, Auteur ; King Ngi Ngan, Auteur ; Zhenzhong Chen, Auteur . - pp. 357-367.

Dispositifs semi-conducteurs Résumé : In this paper, a redundant picture formation algorithm that takes into account a given redundancy rate constraint is presented for error resilient wireless video transmission without reliance on retransmissions. The algorithm assigns priorities to macroblocks (MBs) according to two suggested metrics and ranks MBs accordingly. The first metric is based on an end-to-end distortion model and aims at maximising the reduction in distortion per redundancy bit. The end-to-end distortion accounts for the effects of error propagation, mismatch between the primary and redundancy description and error concealment. MBs providing large distortion reduction for fewer bits spent are assigned a higher priority. The second metric employs the variance of the motion vectors of a macroblock and those of its neighbouring blocks. Results show that the rate distortion metric outperforms other examined metrics by up to 2 dB. A comparison with other error resilience schemes, such as loss adaptive-rate distortion optimisation (LA-RDO) and cross packet forward error correction (FEC), is also presented. Results show that our approach outperforms the LA-RDO solution. Cross packet FEC provides better performance in the presence of random packet losses. However, results show that our approach can tackle bursty losses better. With bursty errors, the correction capabilities of the Reed-Solomon codes can be exceeded, and the availability of a coarse representation of the coded macroblocks, through a redundant slice scheme, can offer performance gains of up to 1 dB. Dispositifs semi-conducteurs Résumé : This paper addresses video transcoding from H.264/AVC into MPEG-2 with reduced complexity and high rate-distortion efficiency.
While the overall concept is based on a cascaded decoder–encoder, the novel adaptation methods developed in this work have the advantage of providing very good performance in H.264/AVC to MPEG-2 transcoding.
The proposed approach exploits the similarities between the coding tools used in both standards, with the objective of obtaining a computationally efficient transcoder without penalising the signal quality.
Fast and efficient methods are devised for conversion of macroblock coding modes and translation of motion information in order to compute the MPEG-2 coding format with a reduced number of operations, by reusing the corresponding data embedded in the incoming H.264/AVC coded stream.
In comparison with a cascaded decoder–encoder, the fast transcoder achieves computational complexity savings up to 60% with slightly better peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) at the same bitrate.DEWEY : 361.382 ISSN : 0923-5965 En ligne : http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=PublicationURL&_tockey=%23TOC%235640%23 [...] [article] Video transcoding from H.264/AVC to MPEG-2 with reduced computational complexity [texte imprimé] / Sandro Moiron, Auteur ; Sérgio Faria, Auteur ; António Navarro, Auteur . - pp. 637-650.

Dispositifs semi-conducteurs Résumé : In this paper, we propose a new method of depth-image-based rendering (DIBR) for free-viewpoint TV (FTV).
In the conventional method, we estimated the depth of an object on the virtual image plane, which is called view-dependent depth estimation, and the virtual view images are rendered using the view-dependent depth map.
In this method, virtual viewpoint images are rendered with 3D warping instead of estimating the view-dependent depth, since depth estimation is usually costly and it is desirable to eliminate it from the rendering process.
However, 3D warping causes some problems that do not occur in the method with view-dependent depth estimation; for example, the appearance of holes on the rendered image, and the occurrence of depth discontinuity on the surface of the object at virtual image plane.
Depth discontinuity causes artifacts on the rendered image.
In this paper, these problems are solved by projecting depth map to the virtual image plane and performing post-filtering on the projected depth map.
In the experiments, high-quality arbitrary viewpoint images were obtained by rendering images from relatively small number of cameras.DEWEY : 361.382 ISSN : 0923-5965 En ligne : http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=PublicationURL&_tockey=%23TOC%235640%23 [...] [article] View generation with 3D warping using depth information for FTV [texte imprimé] / Yuji Mori, Auteur ; Norishige Fukushima, Auteur ; Tomohiro Yendo, Auteur . - 2009 . - pp. 65-72.

In the experiments, high-quality arbitrary viewpoint images were obtained by rendering images from relatively small number of cameras.DEWEY : 361.382 ISSN : 0923-5965 En ligne : http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=PublicationURL&_tockey=%23TOC%235640%23 [...] View synthesis prediction for multiview video coding / Sehoon Yea in Signal processing. Dispositifs semi-conducteurs Résumé : We propose a rate-distortion-optimized framework that incorporates view synthesis for improved prediction in multiview video coding.
In the proposed scheme, auxiliary information, including depth data, is encoded and used at the decoder to generate the view synthesis prediction data.
The proposed method employs optimal mode decision including view synthesis prediction, and sub-pixel reference matching to improve prediction accuracy of the view synthesis prediction.
Novel variants of the skip and direct modes are also presented, which infer the depth and correction vector information from neighboring blocks in a synthesized reference picture to reduce the bits needed for the view synthesis prediction mode.
We demonstrate two multiview video coding scenarios in which view synthesis prediction is employed.
In the first scenario, the goal is to improve the coding efficiency of multiview video where block-based depths and correction vectors are encoded by CABAC in a lossless manner on a macroblock basis.
A variable block-size depth/motion search algorithm is described.
Experimental results demonstrate that view synthesis prediction does provide some coding gains when combined with disparity-compensated prediction.
In the second scenario, the goal is to use view synthesis prediction for reducing rate overhead incurred by transmitting depth maps for improved support of 3DTV and free-viewpoint video applications.
It is assumed that the complete depth map for each view is encoded separately from the multiview video and used at the receiver to generate intermediate views.
We utilize this information for view synthesis prediction to improve overall coding efficiency.
Experimental results show that the rate overhead incurred by coding depth maps of varying quality could be offset by utilizing the proposed view synthesis prediction techniques to reduce the bitrate required for coding multiview video.DEWEY : 361.382 ISSN : 0923-5965 En ligne : http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=PublicationURL&_tockey=%23TOC%235640%23 [...] [article] View synthesis prediction for multiview video coding [texte imprimé] / Sehoon Yea, Auteur ; Anthony Vetro, Auteur . - pp. 89-100.
