An alternative basis is established for the prediction of an existing single stage axial compressor with a specified geometry. The distribution of tangential velocity are specified as functions of the radius; Vu = f(r). The axial velocites, and other variables that would exist upstream and downstream are then obtained using the radial equilibrium equation (R.E.E.). Some correlations, wich are based on experimental observation, are used to specify some variables. The performance map based on the R.E.E. for an incompressible fluid is obtained, i.e., pressure ratio vs. flow rate and efficiency vs. flow rate, for two rotational speeds, 3000 R.P.M. and 724 R.P.M. Experimental data was taken for 724 R.P.M. and a comparison was then made between the obtained theoretical and experimental maps. |
