Martínez, Auteur Article en page(s) : pp. 615-629 Note générale : Electronique Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Video summarization Temporal scalability H.264/AVC Content-based browsing Index. décimale : 621.382 Dispositifs électroniques utilisant les effets des corps solides. Dispositifs semi-conducteurs Résumé : Video summarization refers to an important set of abstraction techniques aimed to provide a compact representation of the video essential to effectively browse and retrieve video content from multimedia repositories.
Most of these video summarization techniques, such as image storyboards, video skims and fast previews, are based on selecting some frames or segments.
H.264/AVC has become a widely accepted coding standard and is expected that many of the content will be available in this format soon.
This paper proposes a generic model of video summarization especially suitable for generating summaries of H.264/AVC bitstreams in a highly efficient manner, using the concept of temporal scalability via hierarchical prediction structures.
Along with the model, specific examples of summarization techniques are given to prove the utility of the model.DEWEY : 361.382 ISSN : 0923-5965 En ligne : http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=PublicationURL&_tockey=%23TOC%235640%23 [...] [article] On the use of hierarchical prediction structures for efficient summary generation of H.264/AVC bitstreams [texte imprimé] / Luis Herranz, Auteur ; José M. Dispositifs semi-conducteurs Résumé : Several specific features have been incorporated into Motion estimation (ME) in H.264 coding standard to improve its coding efficiency.
However, they result in very high computational load. In this paper, a fast ME algorithm is proposed to reduce the computational complexity.
First, a mode discriminant method is used to free the encoder from checking the small block size modes in homogeneous regions.
Second, a condensed hierarchical block matching method and a spatial neighbor searching scheme are employed to find the best full-pixel motion vector.
Finally, direction-based selection rule is utilized to reduce the searching range in sub-pixel ME process.
Experimental results on commonly used QCIF and CIF format test sequences have shown that the proposed algorithm achieves a reduction of 88% ME process time on average, while incurring only 0.033 dB loss in PSNR and 0.50% increment on the total bit rate compared with that of exhaustive ME process, which is a default approach adopted in the JM reference software.DEWEY : 361.382 ISSN : 0923-5965 En ligne : http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=PublicationURL&_tockey=%23TOC%235640%23 [...] [article] Fast motion estimation for H.264 [texte imprimé] / Canhui Cai, Auteur ; Huanqiang Zeng, Auteur ; Sanjit K. Titre : Video transcoding from H.264/AVC to MPEG-2 with reduced computational complexity Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Sandro Moiron, Auteur ; Sérgio Faria, Auteur ; António Navarro, Auteur Article en page(s) : pp. 637-650 Note générale : Electronique Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Video transcoding H.264/AVC MPEG-2 Index. décimale : 621.382 Dispositifs électroniques utilisant les effets des corps solides. Dispositifs semi-conducteurs Résumé : This paper addresses video transcoding from H.264/AVC into MPEG-2 with reduced complexity and high rate-distortion efficiency.
While the overall concept is based on a cascaded decoder–encoder, the novel adaptation methods developed in this work have the advantage of providing very good performance in H.264/AVC to MPEG-2 transcoding.
The proposed approach exploits the similarities between the coding tools used in both standards, with the objective of obtaining a computationally efficient transcoder without penalising the signal quality.
Fast and efficient methods are devised for conversion of macroblock coding modes and translation of motion information in order to compute the MPEG-2 coding format with a reduced number of operations, by reusing the corresponding data embedded in the incoming H.264/AVC coded stream.
In comparison with a cascaded decoder–encoder, the fast transcoder achieves computational complexity savings up to 60% with slightly better peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) at the same bitrate.DEWEY : 361.382 ISSN : 0923-5965 En ligne : http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=PublicationURL&_tockey=%23TOC%235640%23 [...] [article] Video transcoding from H.264/AVC to MPEG-2 with reduced computational complexity [texte imprimé] / Sandro Moiron, Auteur ; Sérgio Faria, Auteur ; António Navarro, Auteur . - pp. 637-650.

Dispositifs semi-conducteurs Résumé : In this paper, we first develop a simple but nevertheless accurate and fully analytical model for the sequence-level distortion–rate (D–R) performance of predictive video source encoding.
This model focuses on the input–output behavior of the source encoder and requires very limited amount of empirical data to set up its working parameters, namely three pairs of rate and distortion.
Then, we propose an accurate and fully analytical model for the distortion due to lost frames in wireless communication systems.
The proposed model builds on long-term average properties of the video source.
In our analysis, we combine the properties of the video sequence and those of the wireless transmission link.
Finally, we provide an asymptotic analysis of the video transmission through a wireless channel.
We compare the results to those obtained by using less sophisticated models, like a (D–R)-function that is built on a Gaussian memoryless source.
It is shown that the obtained results are substantially different.DEWEY : 361.382 ISSN : 0923-5965 En ligne : http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=PublicationURL&_tockey=%23TOC%235640%23 [...] [article] Models and analysis of streaming video transmission over wireless fading channels [texte imprimé] / Michel T. Titre : Joint video/depth rate allocation for 3D video coding based on view synthesis distortion model Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Yanwei Liu, Auteur ; Qingming Huang, Auteur ; Siwei Ma, Auteur Article en page(s) : pp. 666-681 Note générale : Electronique Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : View synthesis Distortion model Rate allocation 3D video coding Index. décimale : 621.382 Dispositifs électroniques utilisant les effets des corps solides. Dispositifs semi-conducteurs Résumé : Joint video/depth rate allocation is an important optimization problem in 3D video coding.
To address this problem, this paper proposes a distortion model to evaluate the synthesized view without access to the captured original view.
The proposed distortion model is an additive model that accounts for the video-coding-induced distortion and the depth-quantization-induced distortion, as well as the inherent geometry distortion.
Depth-quantization-induced distortion not only considers the warping error distortion, which is described by a piecewise linear model with the video power spectral property, but also takes into account the warping error correlation distortion between two sources reference views.
Geometry distortion is approximated from that of the adjacent view synthesis.
Based on the proposed distortion model, a joint rate allocation method is proposed to seek the optimal trade-off between video bit-rate and depth bit-rate for maximizing the view synthesis quality.
Experimental results show that the proposed distortion model is capable of approximately estimating the actual distortion for the synthesized view, and that the proposed rate allocation method can almost achieve the identical rate allocation performance as the full-search method at less computational cost.
Moreover, the proposed rate allocation method consumes less computational cost than the hierarchical-search method at high bit-rates while providing almost the equivalent rate allocation performance.DEWEY : 361.382 ISSN : 0923-5965 En ligne : http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=PublicationURL&_tockey=%23TOC%235640%23 [...] [article] Joint video/depth rate allocation for 3D video coding based on view synthesis distortion model [texte imprimé] / Yanwei Liu, Auteur ; Qingming Huang, Auteur ; Siwei Ma, Auteur . - pp. 666-681.

Dispositifs semi-conducteurs Résumé : AVS (audio video coding standard) is the latest multimedia coding standard of China.
Similar to H.264/AVC, AVS adopted the technology of fractional-pel-accurate motion compensation, which enhanced the compression efficiency.
To obtain fractional pels, 4-tap FIR filters and bilinear filters are used for luma and chroma interpolation respectively.
Unlike the VLSI-optimized FIR filters which could be implemented by adders and shifters, the bilinear filter for chroma is not so convenient for direct VLSI implementation due to its multiplications.
In this paper, we propose a VLSI-oriented algorithm named SHAM (x–y-separated halved-approaching method) to accomplish the bilinear filtering.
The proposed SHAM algorithm adopts a halved-approaching method which is an addition-and-shift-only method and with simpler data path.
VLSI structures are also provide to implement the SHAM algorithm in this paper.
Experiments based on UMC View the MathML source process show that the SHAM algorithm could be implemented with about 48% less silicon area or at doubled frequency compared with the direct implementation of the bilinear filter.DEWEY : 361.382 ISSN : 0923-5965 En ligne : http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=PublicationURL&_tockey=%23TOC%235640%23 [...] [article] A VLSI-oriented algorithm and its implementation for AVS chroma interpolation [texte imprimé] / Bingqiang Zhu, Auteur ; Yun He, Auteur ; Shunliang Mei, Auteur . - pp. 682-690.
