With the present industrial practice, there is no particle separation process to remove these insoluble minerals prior to thermochemical processing.
In this current research appropriate conditions for trona flotation technology were established from exploratory bench-scale experiments, and the conditions obtained from the bench-scale experiments were also applied to pilot scale flotation tests.
In this regard various process variables such as amine dosage, flotation percent solids, amine to oil ratio, pH of amine solution, collector structure, brine composition, feed particle size, etc. were studied to establish the preferred conditions and operating variables for pilot-plant testing.
Additional information regarding the mineralogy of the system and collector characteristics is also reported to provide further analysis and explanation.DEWEY : 622 ISSN : 0892-6875 En ligne : http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=ArticleURL&_udi=B6VDR-4XDKC9K-1&_user=6 [...] [article] Evaluation of flotation technology for the trona industry [texte imprimé] / O. Pyrite was significantly depressed with these bacteria using the optimum dosage of reagents.
Sphalerite recovery and Zn grade in the obtained sphalerite concentrate were both enhanced by bacteria.
The results of bioflotation experiments showed that bacterial depression of pyrite is very sensitive to the concentration of other flotation reagents.
Least significance difference (LSD) bars were used to study the significance of the factors under study with a confidence interval of 90%.
Under similar conditions, A. ferrooxidans was seen to increase the Zn grade and separation efficiency more effectively than sodium cyanide.
Flotation kinetic studies confirmed a considerable decrease in the pyrite kinetic rate constant in the presence of A. ferrooxidans.DEWEY : 622 ISSN : 0892-6875 En ligne : http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=ArticleURL&_udi=B6VDR-4XDKC9K-1&_user=6 [...] [article] Depression of pyrite in the flotation of high pyrite low-grade lead–zinc ore using acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans [texte imprimé] / J. Titre : Selective separation of fine albite from feldspathic slime containing colored minerals (Fe-Min) by batch scale dissolved air flotation (DAF) Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Cengiz Karagüzel, Auteur Article en page(s) : pp. 17-24 Note générale : Génie Minier Métallurgie Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Flotation Dissolved air flotation (DAF) Feldspar Fine particle Slime Charged bubble Index. décimale : 622 Industrie minière Résumé : In this study, the separation of feldspar minerals (albite) from slimes containing feldspar and iron containing minerals (Fe-Min) was studied using dissolved air flotation (DAF) technique whereby bubbles less than 100 μm in size are produced.
Before the flotation experiments with slimes, single flotation experiments with albite and Fe-Min were carried out using DAF in order to obtain optimum flotation conditions for the selective separation of feldspar from the slimes.
Flotation experiments were performed with anionic collectors; BD-15 (commercial collector) and Na-oleat.
The two methods of reagent conditioning were tested on the flotation performance; traditional conditioning and charged bubble technique.
In addition, the effect of pH, flotation time, rising time, and drainage time which influence the selective separation in the DAF system were studied in detail.
Overall, the flotation results indicated that the separation of albite from Fe-Min can be achieved with DAF at 5 min of rising time and 5 min of drainage time.
Interestingly, these results also showed that the
conditioning of the particles with the charged bubbles increased the flotation recovery of Fe-Min compared to the traditional conditioning.
Furthermore, the flotation tests with the feldspathic slime sample were carried out under the optimum conditions obtained from the systematic studies using the single minerals.
The charged bubble technique produced an albite concentrate assaying 0.33% Fe2O3 + TiO2 and 11.07% Na2O + K2O from a slime feed consisting of 1.06% Fe2O3 + TiO2 and 10.36% Na2O + K2O.DEWEY : 622 ISSN : 0892-6875 En ligne : http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=ArticleURL&_udi=B6VDR-4XDKC9K-1&_user=6 [...] [article] Selective separation of fine albite from feldspathic slime containing colored minerals (Fe-Min) by batch scale dissolved air flotation (DAF) [texte imprimé] / Cengiz Karagüzel, Auteur . - pp. 17-24.

The experiments were carried out using the microorganism Desulfuromonas palmitatis.
The effectiveness of the treatment was evaluated on six different bauxite samples, containing the alumina oxide in the form of diaspore or boehmite.
The Fe2O3 content of the samples varied between 16.3% and 22.3% and occurred mainly in the form of goethite or hematite, with one sample containing also chamosite.
For comparison reasons the same treatment was also applied on three samples of synthetic Fe(III)-oxides, namely ferrihydrite, goethite and hematite.
The removal of iron from the six bauxite samples was found to vary between 7% and 29% and the highest extraction corresponded to the sample containing the Fe(II) rich compound, chamosite.
The bioavailability of Fe in the three synthetic oxides was highly dependant on their crystallinity.
The amorphous ferrihydrite was almost completely dissolved, up to 95%, whereas dissolution of crystalline goethite and hematite did not exceed 9% and 1.2% respectively.DEWEY : 622 ISSN : 0892-6875 En ligne : http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=ArticleURL&_udi=B6VDR-4XDKC9K-1&_user=6 [...] [article] Effectiveness of iron reducing bacteria for the removal of iron from bauxite ores [texte imprimé] / Nymphodora Papassiopi, Auteur ; Katerina Vaxevanidou, Auteur ; Ioannis Paspaliaris, Auteur . - pp. 25-31.

Titre : Removal of cyanide in aqueous solution by oxidation with hydrogen peroxide in presence of activated carbon prepared from olive stones Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Ahmed Reda Yeddou, Auteur ; Nadjemi, Boubakeur, Auteur ; Halet, Farid, Auteur Article en page(s) : pp. 32-39 Note générale : Génie Minier Métallurgie Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Cyanide removal Oxidation Activated carbon Catalysis Kinetics Index. décimale : 622 Industrie minière Résumé : This work is dedicated to the removal of the very toxic free cyanide from aqueous solution by oxidation with hydrogen peroxide H2O2 in the presence of activated carbon prepared from olive stones.
Effects of the initial molar ratio [H2O2]0/[CN−]0, the initial cyanide concentration, the activated carbon concentration and the temperature on cyanide removal have been examined.
The removal of free cyanide in absence of activated carbon showed very slow kinetics.
The presence of activated carbon has increased the reaction rate showing thus a catalytic activity.
The kinetics of cyanide removal has been found to be of pseudo-first-order with respect to cyanide and the rate constants have been determined for different values of the aforementioned parameters.
The apparent activation energy has been determined from tests carried out at three different temperatures.
It was found equal to 46.2 kJ/mol in the presence of activated carbon, which is about half of the 82.7 kJ/mol found for the oxidation in absence of the activated carbon.
This process can be interesting for the cyanide removal from processed solutions because it does not use soluble metal catalyst and it consumes only hydrogen peroxide as chemical product.DEWEY : 622 ISSN : 0892-6875 En ligne : http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=ArticleURL&_udi=B6VDR-4XDKC9K-1&_user=6 [...] [article] Removal of cyanide in aqueous solution by oxidation with hydrogen peroxide in presence of activated carbon prepared from olive stones [texte imprimé] / Ahmed Reda Yeddou, Auteur ; Nadjemi, Boubakeur, Auteur ; Halet, Farid, Auteur . - pp. 32-39.

Titre : Oxidation of Fe(II) in a synthetic nickel laterite leach liquor with SO2/air Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Wensheng Zhang, Auteur ; David Muir, Auteur Article en page(s) : pp. 40-44 Note générale : Génie Minier Métallurgie Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Iron oxidation Nickel laterite solution Sulphur dioxide and air Index. décimale : 622 Industrie minière Résumé : Under specific controlled conditions, the addition of SO2 to oxygen or air produces the peroxy-monosulphate free radical in solution, which is a stronger oxidant than oxygen alone.
In this study, the practical strategies required to optimise the oxidation of Fe(II) with SO2/air was investigated at 75 °C as part of a process to remove iron as Fe(III) oxides from a synthetic nickel laterite high pressure acid leach solution containing 5 g/L Fe(II), 1 g/L Fe(III), 8 g/L Ni, 30 g/L Mg in sea water at pH about 2.
The rate of Fe(II) oxidation was optimised in the pH range of 1.2–2.0 with respect to SO2/air ratio and gas flow rates for minimum production of H2SO4 and maximum utilisation of SO2.
In order to minimise the air flow rates into the reactor vessel, the maximum rate of SO2 addition that could be employed with air was established whilst maintaining oxidising conditions.
The results provide strategies for commercial applications of the SO2/air oxidising system and indicate important factors for reactor design.DEWEY : 622 ISSN : 0892-6875 En ligne : http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=ArticleURL&_udi=B6VDR-4XDKC9K-1&_user=6 [...] [article] Oxidation of Fe(II) in a synthetic nickel laterite leach liquor with SO2/air [texte imprimé] / Wensheng Zhang, Auteur ; David Muir, Auteur . - pp. 40-44.

Exotic and supergenic enrichment samples were contrasted by assaying three Chilean copper deposits in order to develop a predictive methodology of the industrial process.
The mineralogical and chemical characteristics of the ores were described, including clay-size fraction X-ray diffraction, cation exchange capacity and hydraulic conductivity.
Leaching experiments included the re-extraction of Cu remaining in the heap and were performed in stages of rinsing and elution in order to quantify the Cu physically or chemically retained in the residues.
The integral characterization and the assays permit to predict the leaching behavior of the studied units and make possible the necessary blend of them in the industrial process.
A relevant conclusion was to confirm that the removal of clay minerals from the rock framework during leaching is dependent of the rock texture which resulted as the limiting variable for the final copper liberation or retention.DEWEY : 622 ISSN : 0892-6875 En ligne : http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=ArticleURL&_udi=B6VDR-4XDKC9K-1&_user=6 [...] [article] The influence of rock characteristics on acid leach extraction and re-extraction of Cu-oxide and sulfide minerals [texte imprimé] / S. The grinding power consumed for a given grinding time was considered, as well as the effect of grinding aids on particle size.
The grinding energy consumed, defined as the integral of the grinding power over time, was also investigated.
The grinding aids were found to influence the product size and decrease the grinding energy.
This is attributed to the prevention of agglomeration and coating of the sample powder onto the ball and grinding chamber wall.
The grinding process seemed to be controlled by the force of agglomeration of the ground products.
It was demonstrated that the particle size and grinding consumption energy could be decreased by the addition of grinding aids.DEWEY : 622 ISSN : 0892-6875 En ligne : http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=ArticleURL&_udi=B6VDR-4XDKC9K-1&_user=6 [...] [article] Effect of grinding aids on the grinding energy consumed during grinding of calcite in a stirred ball mill [texte imprimé] / H.
It was demonstrated that the particle size and grinding consumption energy could be decreased by the addition of grinding aids.DEWEY : 622 ISSN : 0892-6875 En ligne : http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=ArticleURL&_udi=B6VDR-4XDKC9K-1&_user=6 [...] Gas phase extraction of iron from its oxide in a fluidized bed reactor / L. The effect of temperature, ligand concentration and metal oxide concentration on such an iron extraction process was investigated.
The ligand was introduced to the fluidized bed reactor containing the different concentrations of metal oxides at different flow rates through an evaporator.
Gas phase extraction was shown to result in reasonable extractions in short periods of time, with iron extraction above 80% after 4 h for the low metal oxide concentration charge.
The process was shown to depend on all the mentioned variables, and there is need to find a relationship which will be able to predict how extraction proceeds with time.DEWEY : 622 ISSN : 0892-6875 En ligne : http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=ArticleURL&_udi=B6VDR-4XDKC9K-1&_user=6 [...] [article] Gas phase extraction of iron from its oxide in a fluidized bed reactor [texte imprimé] / L.
