Titre : Iterative joint source–channel decoding of H.264 compressed video Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : David Levine, Auteur ; William E. Lynch, Auteur ; Tho Le-Ngoc, Auteur Année de publication : 2010 Article en page(s) : pp. 75-87 Note générale : Electronique Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Error resilience Joint source–channel decoding Likelihood decoding Compressed video H.264 Index. décimale : 621.382 Dispositifs électroniques utilisant les effets des corps solides. Dispositifs semi-conducteurs Résumé : This paper proposes an Iterative Joint Source–Channel Decoding (IJSCD) scheme for error resilient transmission of H.264 compressed video over noisy channels by using the available H.264 compression, e.g., Context-based Adaptive Binary Arithmetic Coding (CABAC), and channel coding, i.e., rate-1/2 Recursive Systematic Convolutional (RSC) code, in transmission.
At the receiver, the turbo decoding concept is explored to develop a joint source–channel decoding structure using a soft-in soft-out channel decoder in conjunction with the source decoding functions, e.g., CABAC-based H.264 semantic verification, in an iterative manner.
Illustrative designs of the proposed IJSCD scheme for an Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) channel, including the derivations of key parameters for soft information are discussed.
The performance of the proposed IJSCD scheme is shown for several video sequences.
In the examples, for the same desired Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR), the proposed IJSCD scheme offers a savings of up to 2.1 dB in required channel Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) as compared to a system using the same RSC code alone.
The complexity of the proposed scheme is also evaluated.
As the number of iterations is controllable, a tradeoff can be made between performance improvement and the overall complexity.DEWEY : 361.382 ISSN : 0923-5965 En ligne : http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=PublicationURL&_tockey=%23TOC%235640%23 [...] [article] Iterative joint source–channel decoding of H.264 compressed video [texte imprimé] / David Levine, Auteur ; William E. Dispositifs semi-conducteurs Résumé : In the joint multiview video model (JMVM) proposed by JVT, the variable block-size motion estimation (ME) and disparity estimation (DE) have been employed to determine the best coding mode for each macroblock (MB).
These give a high coding efficiency for multiview video coding (MVC), however, they cause a very high computational complexity in encoding system.
This paper proposes to reduce the complexities of the ME and DE processes with an early SKIP mode decision algorithm based on the analysis of prediction mode distribution regarding the corresponding MBs in the neighbor view.
In this method, the mode decision procedures of most of MBs can be early terminated, and thus much of computation for ME and DE can be greatly reduced.
Simulation results demonstrate that our algorithm can achieve computational saving of 46–57% (depending on the tested sequences) with no significant loss of rate-distortion performance.DEWEY : 361.382 ISSN : 0923-5965 En ligne : http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=PublicationURL&_tockey=%23TOC%235640%23 [...] [article] Early SKIP mode decision for MVC using inter-view correlation [texte imprimé] / Liquan Shen, Auteur ; Zhi Liu, Auteur ; Tao Yan, Auteur . - 2010 . - pp. 88-93.

Titre : Flexible distribution of complexity by hybrid predictive-distributed video coding Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Jürgen Slowack, Auteur ; Jozef Škorupa, Auteur ; Stefaan Mys, Auteur Année de publication : 2010 Article en page(s) : pp. 94-110 Note générale : Electronique Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Distributed video coding Hybrid video coding Wyner-Ziv coding Index. décimale : 621.382 Dispositifs électroniques utilisant les effets des corps solides. Dispositifs semi-conducteurs Résumé : There is currently limited flexibility for distributing complexity in a video coding system.
While rate-distortion-complexity (RDC) optimization techniques have been proposed for conventional predictive video coding with encoder-side motion estimation, they fail to offer true flexible distribution of complexity between encoder and decoder since the encoder is assumed to have always more computational resources available than the decoder.
On the other hand, distributed video coding solutions with decoder-side motion estimation have been proposed, but hardly any RDC optimized systems have been developed.
To offer more flexibility for video applications involving multi-tasking or battery-constrained devices, in this paper, we propose a codec combining predictive video coding concepts and techniques from distributed video coding and show the flexibility of this method in distributing complexity.
We propose several modes to code frames, and provide complexity analysis illustrating encoder and decoder computational complexity for each mode.
Rate distortion results for each mode indicate that the coding efficiency is similar.
We describe a method to choose which mode to use for coding each inter frame, taking into account encoder and decoder complexity constraints, and illustrate how complexity is distributed more flexibly.DEWEY : 361.382 ISSN : 0923-5965 En ligne : http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=PublicationURL&_tockey=%23TOC%235640%23 [...] [article] Flexible distribution of complexity by hybrid predictive-distributed video coding [texte imprimé] / Jürgen Slowack, Auteur ; Jozef Škorupa, Auteur ; Stefaan Mys, Auteur . - 2010 . - pp. 94-110.

Dispositifs semi-conducteurs Résumé : In this paper, we introduce the quantization index hierarchy, which is used for efficient coding of quantized wavelet and wavelet packet coefficients.
A hierarchical classification map is defined in each wavelet subband, which describes the quantized data through a series of index classes.
Going from bottom to the top of the tree, neighboring coefficients are combined to form classes that represent some statistics of the quantization indices of these coefficients.
Higher levels of the tree are constructed iteratively by repeating this class assignment to partition the coefficients into larger subsets.
The class assignments are optimized using a rate-distortion cost analysis.
The optimized tree is coded hierarchically from top to bottom by coding the class membership information at each level of the tree.
Context-adaptive arithmetic coding is used to improve coding efficiency.
The developed algorithm produces PSNR results that are better than the state-of-art wavelet-based and wavelet packet-based coders in literature.DEWEY : 361.382 ISSN : 0923-5965 En ligne : http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=PublicationURL&_tockey=%23TOC%235640%23 [...] [article] Hierarchical quantization indexing for wavelet and wavelet packet image coding [texte imprimé] / Hasan F. Dispositifs semi-conducteurs Résumé : Adaptively selecting the filter coefficients for interpolating fractional pixels (sub-pel) can significantly improve the quality of reference pictures.
However, the complexity of implementation is greatly increased by performing motion estimation (ME) and mode decision (MD) for multiple passes.
This paper briefly introduces the adaptive interpolation filter (AIF) technique and proposes a refined ME strategy for realizing the AIF process with low complexity.
By using this method, the 2-pass encoding procedure can be avoided while the coding efficiency of the AIF is maintained.
The proposed method is implemented and verified on the AVS video software platform.DEWEY : 361.382 ISSN : 0923-5965 En ligne : http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=PublicationURL&_tockey=%23TOC%235640%23 [...] [article] A refined motion estimation strategy for adaptive interpolation filter [texte imprimé] / Xiaozhong Xu, Auteur ; Zhongmou Wu, Auteur ; Yun He, Auteur . - 2010 . - pp. 121-129.

Dispositifs semi-conducteurs Résumé : This paper presents a novel approach that performs post-processing for stereo matching.
We improve the performance of stereo matching by performing consistency check and adaptive filtering in an iterative filtering scheme.
The consistency check is only done with asymmetric information so that very few additional computational loads are necessary.
The information in the valid pixels is propagated into invalid pixels through the adaptive filtering.
The proposed post-filtering method can be used in various methods for stereo matching.
We demonstrate the validity of the proposed method by applying it to hierarchical belief propagation and semi-global matching.
The performance of the post-processing method for hierarchical belief propagation is comparable to state-of-the-art methods in the Middlebury stereo datasets.
In order to verify the performance of asymmetric consistency check, we compare it with other reliability estimation methods in the proposed post-processing scheme.
Moreover, in order to verify the performance of post-filtering method in noisy environment, the proposed post-filtering method is applied to the stereo images denoised by NL-means algorithm.
We find that the iterative filtering scheme reduce an error which may be caused in stereo matching for the denoised images and improve the performance of stereo matching.DEWEY : 361.382 ISSN : 0923-5965 En ligne : http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=PublicationURL&_tockey=%23TOC%235640%23 [...] [article] An asymmetric post-processing for correspondence problem [texte imprimé] / Dongbo Min, Auteur ; Kwanghoon Sohn, Auteur . - 2010 . - pp. 130-142.
