In order to assess the best predictive methods for the evaluation of CO2 heat transfer coefficients and pressure gradients in macro-channels, in the current article a literature survey of works and a collection of the results of statistical comparisons available in literature are furnished.
In addition the experimental data from University of Naples are used to run a deeper analysis. Both a statistical and a direct comparison against some of the most quoted predictive methods are carried out. Methods implemented both for low–medium pressure refrigerants and specifically developed for R744 are used in the comparison.

Uneven inlet qualities to the different channels show only minor effects on the refrigerant distribution and evaporator capacity as long as the channels are vertically oriented with CO2 flowing upwards. For horizontal channels capacity reductions are found for both non-uniform airflow and uneven inlet qualities. For horizontal minichannels the results are very similar to those obtained using R134a as refrigerant. A linearity of this relationship instead of the actual one was chosen by many researchers for the ease of analysis of fins for a specified geometric fin. This aforementioned linear relation does not satisfy in actual case and it can be correlated by humidity ratio as a polynomial function with temperature. In this work, an exercise is devoted to determine the optimum fin profile for both fully and partially wet longitudinal fins with a nonlinear saturation curve. For this establishment, temperature distribution in the fin can be expressed by a class of power law. From the optimization analysis, an optimality criterion is setup individually for the fully and partially wet surface conditions. The optimum fin profile and design variables have been determined as a function of thermo-psychrometric parameters. The experimental results indicate that the average heating capacity and coefficient of performance of the HTHP could be improved significantly in high-temperature conditions due to the parallel cycles with serial heating on the water side and the modified compressor. All the results indicate that the HTHP using parallel cycles and modified compressor with serial heating on the water side is very competitive in industrial heating applications. The chiller system has a scroll type VSC and a stepper motor controlled EEV. Two different procedures were applied to control EEV and VSC: controlling each part individually while the other was set to a constant value and controlling both parts together using the same algorithm. Three different control algorithms such as proportional, integral, differential (PID), fuzzy logic and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) were experimented. In the first case, PID controller presented reasonable control solution for more stable SH and Two values in the steady state. In the second case, ANN controller pair was selected to achieve minimum power consumption and more stable SH and Two values against to a disturbance. In this manner, ANN controller showed lower power consumption of 8.1 percent and 6.6 percent than both PID and Fuzzy controllers, respectively. For the other microchannel shapes with sharp acute-angle corners, a mist-flow-based model from the literature on larger tubes was found to suffice for the prediction of the heat transfer data. These models predict the data significantly better than the other available correlations in the literature. Analytical solutions for performance parameters such as cooling capacity and device temperature at both the TEC pellet level and module level are derived in simplified formulation based on the TEC thermal balance equations. The major advantage of the present solutions lies in the fact that the optimal TEC performances can be determined in a straightforward manner, as against the iterative procedure mostly reported in literature. In addition, the module level analysis facilitates the TEC optimization without prior knowledge of pellet details and dimensions. The validity of the present analysis approach is demonstrated by examining TECs of different cooling capacities. Furthermore, the optimization of device temperature for microprocessors under TEC enhanced air cooling and liquid cooling conditions is examined. The effect of hot side to cold side temperature difference is discussed and the thermal resistances at both hot and cold sides are also analyzed within given performance parameters. The major advantage of the present solutions lies in the fact that the optimal TEC performances can be determined in a straightforward manner, as against the iterative procedure mostly reported in literature. In addition, the module level analysis facilitates the TEC optimization without prior knowledge of pellet details and dimensions. The validity of the present analysis approach is demonstrated by examining TECs of different cooling capacities. Furthermore, the optimization of device temperature for microprocessors under TEC enhanced air cooling and liquid cooling conditions is examined. The effect of hot side to cold side temperature difference is discussed and the thermal resistances at both hot and cold sides are also analyzed within given performance parameters. A thermoeconomic model based on energy and exergy analyses and an economic model according to the total revenue requirement (TRR) are developed. Minimizing of the unit cost of the refrigeration effect as a product of BOG re-liquefaction plant is performed using the genetic algorithm. Results of thermoeconomic optimization are compared with corresponding features of the base case system. Finally, sensitivity of the total cost of the system product with respect to the variation of some operating parameters is studied.
