The objective is to minimize the total distance travelled for the daily routes over the week. In order to reduce this total distance, some flexibility in the dates of delivery is introduced. A mixed-integer linear model for the problem is formulated. In addition, a two-phase method based in GRASP and path-relinking metaheuristic strategies is proposed. Computational experiments show that the method performs very well, obtaining high-quality solutions in short computational times. Moreover, when it is applied to real-data-based instances, the obtained solutions considerably reduce transportation costs over the planning horizon. It is a specific weighted matching problem with new challenges. This paper proposes a decision method for solving this problem. In the proposed method, different formats of preference information, including numerical values, interval numbers and linguistic variables, are used to express alternative ratings. The technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution is extended to aggregate the three formats of preference information. A bi-objective 0–1 linear programming model using the aggregated information is built to select a desired supplier portfolio, in which the objectives of minimization of suppliers number and maximization of supplier performance are involved. To solve this model, we transform it into an equivalent, and then an exact multi-objective branch-and-bound algorithm is developed to obtain Pareto-optimal solutions. In addition, a real case of an insurance company is used to illustrate the applicability of the proposed method. This problem has a wide range of real-world applications in mixed-model assembly lines, multi-threaded computer systems, broadcast of commercial videotapes and others. The RTVP arises whenever products, clients or jobs need to be sequenced in such a way that the variability in the time between the points at which they receive the necessary resources is minimised. We propose a greedy but adaptive heuristic that avoids being trapped into a poor solution by incorporating a look ahead strategy suitable for this particular scheduling problem. The proposed heuristic outperforms the best existing methods, while being much faster and easier to understand and to implement. Recent studies have shed light on optimization of the EOL process. In addition to identifying the most economical EOL process, identifying the EOL process with the smallest environmental load is equally important, and this is thus a bi-criteria optimization problem. This study attempts to optimize EOL processes for electronic products based on a three-stage heuristic approach, which simultaneously minimizes cost and environmental impact. The proposed heuristic approach then assesses the most common disassembly and recycling processes by using the characteristics of electronic product recycling. Next, the best process for this bi-criteria optimization problem is identified by using the compromise programming method. The empirical analysis is based on data for notebook, and the potential impact on best EOL processes when notebook adopt new product designs is also discussed. In organizing the tournament, the emphasis is typically on selection of the most deserving teams to participate and providing a fair, equitable environment in which to play that result in a true, undisputed champion for the season. However, there are growing concerns of dwindling actual attendance at tournament games and increasing financial burden on the NCAA related to reimbursable team travel expenses. In this paper, we describe the development of an integer program designed to optimize team assignments in the sense of minimizing the distance travelled by teams to game sites and the corresponding travel costs. The goal is to increase tournament accessibility to fans as well as lessen the financial impact to the NCAA while maintaining the integrity of the tournament. We test our model against actual tournament assignments from the past 5 years. Results show consistent and significant cost savings and reductions in distance travelled without compromising the fairness and structure of the tournament. Overall, we demonstrate the usefulness of the model in both operational and strategic business decisions. First, the framework enables to specify appropriate targets for stores of a retail network using data envelopment analysis. This involves comparing stores within homogenous groups, that is, supermarkets and hypermarkets. Second, the framework compares the overall performance of these two groups. This requires the combined use of a Malmquist-type index and statistical tests. This index is decomposed into sub-indices for comparing the differences between groups in terms of the efficiency spread in each group of stores and the productivity differences between the best-practice frontiers spanned by the benchmark stores from each group. The hypothesis tests are used to verify if the differences between groups captured by the sub-indices are statistically significant. The objective is minimum makespan. We assume unit processing time jobs, machine-dependent setup times and batch availability. We show that equal allocation is optimal for a two-machine and a three-machine open shop. Although, this policy is not necessarily optimal for larger size open shops, it is shown numerically to produce very close-to-optimal schedules. This is due in part to strong economic growth and the stimulus provided by environmental regulation. We use stochastic frontier analysis, a parametric econometric technique to generate estimates of the technical efficiency of solid waste management by 299 Welsh SMEs in 2003. We demonstrate that the ranking and efficiency scores of the Welsh SMEs studied correlate significantly with non-parametric data envelopment analysis efficiency measures and are related to the use of environmental auditing practices and the use of local business support groups, but not to monitoring of waste expenditures and publication of environmental policies. The buyer sells a seasonal product over a short selling period and its inventory is subject to deterioration at a constant rate over time. The vendor's production rate is dependent on the buyer's demand rate, which is a linear function of time. Also, the vendor's production process is not perfectly reliable; it may shift from an in-control state to an out-of-control state at any time during a production run and produce some defective (non-conforming) items. Assuming that the vendor follows a lot-for-lot policy for replenishment made to the buyer, the average total cost of the supply chain is derived and an algorithm for finding the optimal solution is developed. The numerical study shows that the supply chain coordination policy is more beneficial than those policies obtained separately from the buyer's and the vendor's perspectives. By providing a discount or rewards to advertisers, publishers can utilise their uncertain service capacity, page-views, more efficiently. We use Generalised Nash Bargaining to study the feasibility of the option contract and solve for an optimal value for the option price. We compare the revenues and benefits from advertisements under the option contract, with those without the options using numerical studies. Mots-clés : Online advertising Nash bargaining game Option contract Index. décimale : 001.424 Résumé : We analyse the use of options for online advertisement publishers. We also study the impact of pricing and other components in the game on the optimal option price, the publisher's revenues, and the advertiser's benefits from the advertisements. In the VMC scheduling problem, each job undergoes different processing routes and there is a set of machines to process any operation. Jobs are produced in lot and lot-streaming is permitted. In addition, machines are distributed through the facility, which raises the travelling time issue. For this reason, the decisions are machine assignments, starting times and sub-lot sizes of the operations. We develop a new Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) formulation that considers all aspects of the problem. Owing to the intractability matter, it is unlikely that the MILP could provide solutions for big-sized instances within a reasonable amount of time. We therefore present a Genetic Algorithm (GA) with a new chromosome structure for the VMC environment. Based on a wide range of examinations, comparative results show that GA is quite favourable and that it obtains the optimum solution for any of the instances in the case where sub-lot number equals 1.
