| Résumé : | A gedankenexperiment is outlined that confirms the reality of diffuse volume transport in fluid continua. This example shows, inter alia, that the phenomenon is not limited to rarefied gases but is, in fact, a strictly continuum phenomenon, valid for both gases and liquids. Moreover, it is shown that volume-regarded as an extensive thermodynamic property of matter-can flow unaccompanied by matter through solid surfaces, in much the same manner as can internal energy ("heat"). |
