Résumé : |
Running a bus service in an area where the level of demand is low raises the problem of nigh fares for the passengers, and therfore, the possibility of further declining of revenuue due to falling patronage.
Examining other ways of meeting the demand for transport at a lower cost for the users is necessary. The mode of transport wich will be compared to that of the bus is the taxi mode.
The interest of the present study consists of evaluationg for each mode, the passanger's generalised cost per trip and point at the one wich turns out to be the cheapest in financial terms, the generalised cost includes walking, waiting, riding and operating cost per passenger.
The first objective of the study is to evaluate the minimum generalised cost per passenger and by mode, considering a given level of demand and then, compare the outputs. The analysis of the model results indicate that the bus service is more convenient to the user in terms of the generalised cost but that under other circumstances, a taxi service might well offer a higher financial adavntage to the would-be passenger
Various sensitivity tests are carried out to examine the changes in the model optimum outputs, due to the variations of some of the assumptions and simple input parameters
It was found that the model is sensitive to the variation in the value of the operating cost but not so much in the value of time. |
