Titre : Analysis of cymenes in essential oils : The case of lepechinia meyeni (Walp.) Epling. Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Guy Collin, Auteur ; François-Xavier Garneau, Auteur ; Hélène Gagnon, Auteur Année de publication : 2011 Article en page(s) : pp. 310-313 Note générale : Génie Chimique Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Lepechinia meyeni Lamiaceae Essential oil composition o-cymene m-cymene p-cymene 3,7,7-trimethyl-1,3,5-cycloheptatriene Index. décimale : 646 Résumé : The similarity of the mass spectra of the o-, m- and p-cymenes together with the small differences of their retention indices make it difficult to unambiguously identify the three cymene isomers. Moreover, there are discrepancies in the various data banks used as a reference in the analysis of essential oils. The authors have taken advantage of the presence of these three compounds in the oil of Lepechinia meyeni to identify the right order of elution of these compounds on both non-polar and polar columns. The order of elution on both DB-5 and S-wax 10 capillary columns is: m-, followed closely by p- and finally at some distance, o-cymene. A fourth compound having a similar mass spectrum was observed. From the literature, it was tentatively identified as 3,7,7-trimethyl-1,3,5-cycloheptatriene. Several components were isolated by liquid chromatography and were identified by various NMR experiments such as: 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, HSQC, HMBC, and NOESY. The major compounds were identified as preisocalamenediol, acorenone, shyobunone, and cryptoacorone. The complete stereochemical structure of cryptoacorone was elucidated. Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : André Bélanger, Auteur ; Guy Collin, Auteur ; François-Xavier Garneau, Auteur Année de publication : 2010 Article en page(s) : pp. 164 - 169 Note générale : Génie Chimique Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Asarum canadense Aristolochiaceae Essential oil composition Methyl eugenol (E)-isoelemicin Linalool Junenol Methoxylated elemicin Hydroxy elemicin isomers Index. décimale : 646 Résumé : The fresh rhizomes and roots of Asarum canadense were steam-distilled to yield oils in 1.30% to 1.96%, respectively.
The oils were analyzed by a combination of GC-FID and GC/MS techniques.
In the case of the rhizome oil, the total amount of phenyl ethers including methyl eugenol, elemicins, and asaricin was about 58%.
In the root oil, (E)-isoelemicin was the major product (20%) accompanied by elemicin (4.9%).
From retention indices on both non-polar and polar columns and MS considerations, it may be inferred that methoxy-elemicin and both (E)- and (Z)-methoxy-isoelemicin as well as the new hydroxyl derivatives: hydroxyl-elemicin and (E)- and (Z)-hydroxy-isoelemicins were characterized in the oils.DEWEY : 665 ISSN : 1041-2905 En ligne : http://www.jeoronline.com/archive/detail/50 [article] Aromas from Quebec. Sesquiterpenes dominated in L. graveolens (61%).
In the oil of L. meyeni the monoterpenes constituted the most important fraction (ca. 40%) followed by oxygenated sesquiterpenes (ca. 31%).
Finally, the composition of the oil of L. floribunda was more complex: sesquiterpenes (20–28%), monoterpenes (21–20%), oxygenated sesquiterpenes (21–23%), and oxygenated monoterpenes (18.5–13%).DEWEY : 665 ISSN : 1041-2905 En ligne : http://www.jeoronline.com/archive/detail/42#top [article] Essential oils from bolivia.
