Pant, Auteur Article en page(s) : pp. 85-90 Note générale : Génie Chimique Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Alpinia nutans Zingiberaceae Essential oil composition Sabinene 1,8-cineole Terpinen-4-ol γ-terpinene Antioxidant activity Antimicrobial activity Index. décimale : 646 Résumé : The essential oils of the aerial parts and flowers of Alpinia nutans Rosc. were analyzed by GC and GC/MS.
Oil from aerial parts was rich in monoterpenoids (85.7%) with sabinene (27.8%), 1,8-cineole (17.4%), terpinen-4-ol (14.9%), p-cymene (5.2%), γ-terpinene (5.1%), cis-sabinene hydrate (1.3%) and linalool (3.3%) as the major components identified, and with β-caryophyllene (3.9%) and caryophyllene oxide (1.3%) as sesquiterpenoids.
Terpinen-4-ol (25.1%), γ-terpinene (19.4%), sabinene (14.2%), 1,8-cineole (10.8%), linalool (1.6%) and caryophyllene oxide (1.0%) were the major components characterized in the flower oil.
The oils were evaluated for DPPH radical scavenging ability, chelation of Fe+2, and reducing power activities.
Further, these oils were also examined for their antimicrobial activities against Pasteurella multocida, Escherichia coli, Salmonella enterica, Shigella flexneri and Staphylococcus aureus.
The aerial parts oil was found to be more active than the flower oil in all the cases.DEWEY : 665 ISSN : 1041-2905 En ligne : http://www.jeoronline.com/archive/detail/47 [article] Chemical composition, and antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of alpinia nutans rosc. Pant, Auteur Année de publication : 2012 Article en page(s) : pp. 385-391 Note générale : Génie Chimique Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Globba sessiliflora Sims Zingiberaceae β-caryophyllene Myrcene Longipinene Selin-11-en-α-ol Antioxidant activity Myorelaxant activity Résumé : The volatile constituents of the rhizomes and aerial parts of Globba sessiliflora Sims were analyzed by a combination of gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS). The major constituents identified in the rhizome oil were β-caryophyllene (20.1%), α-cadinol (14.7%), selin-11-en-4α-ol (12.0%), caryophyllene oxide (8.6%), γ-eudesmol (7.1%) and myrcene (4.7%). The oil from aerial part contained myrcene (15.8%), β-caryophyllene (12.3%), selin-11-en-4α-ol (11.0%), β-longipinene (10.9), manool (8.1%), germacrene D (5.2%) and β-eudesmol (4.1%) as major constituents. Both the oils showed significant myorelaxant effect on isolated duodenum smooth muscles of Wistar rats. The antioxidant activity of the oils were evaluated by different methods, namely reducing power assay, 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay and the chelating effect on Fe2+. The oils exhibited good to moderate antioxidant activity in a dose-dependent manner. The analysis of the oils from leaves and flowers revealed the presence of β-phellandrene (1.8%, 18.4%), geijerene (2.0%, 15.0%), germacrene B (11.6%, 2.0%), linalyl acetate (7.3%, 11.2%), linalool (9.5%, 9.4%), α-terpineol (5.6%, 4.4%) and pregeijerene (0.2%, 5.6%) as major constituents. The antioxidant activity of the leaf and flower oils was studied and compared by different methods including their effect on reducing power, chelating properties of Fe+2 and in vitro 2’2’-diphenylpicrylhadrazyl (DPPH) radical-scavenging activity. The total phenolic contents in the water extracts of leaf and flower were estimated and compared. The oil was found to be rich in linalool (53.3%) with lesser amounts of limonene (14.0%), β-pinene (9.3%) and α-pinene (4.4%) being among the other constituents. The marker components of the family Zingiberaceae such as borneol (0.9%) and β-eudesmol (1.4%) were found to be present in relatively low concentrations in the oil. This is the frst report on composition of the oil from rhizome of Z. roseum.
