| Résumé : | The classical method of slices is reviewed and shown to have serious deficiencies with respect to its application to the effective-stress analysis of slopes. A revised approach is developed by considering uniform flow through a slice. This approach is shown to cater for the combined influence of buoyancy and seepage forces and to be consistent with the well-known solutions to two special cases. An approximate solution is proposed for the general situation in which flow through the slices is not uniform. |
