| Résumé : | The essential oils obtained by hydrodistillation of the fresh leaves and fruits of Pittosporum neelgherrense were analyzed by GC and GC/MS. Twenty-one components comprising 97.6% of the leaf oil and twenty components comprising 81.3% of the fruit oil have been identified. Undecane (62.2%) was the major component in the leaf oil followed by caryophyllene oxide (9.0%) and β-caryophyllene (8.7%). β-Selinene (11.9%), undecane (11.3%), nonane (8.8%) and α—pinene (8.4%) were the major components in the fruit oil. The oils showed moderate activity against most of the tested Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. |
