To enable students to acquire practical skills in this topic, simple computers can be used. These computers are usually microcontrollers or education-specific machines. In this paper, we present a machine based on a simple processor that also has some of the characteristics of microcontrollers, such as integrated input/output ports. In addition, this machine is accompanied with a tool suite intended for educational purposes that includes several simulators, assemblers, and debuggers that have been gradually introduced since the academic year 1999-2000. Results show that students are satisfied with the integrated development environment and with the machine as an example of how actual computers work.
