Titre : Desulfurization of model gasoline on modified bentonite Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Xiao-lin Tang, Auteur ; Xuan Meng, Auteur ; Li Shi, Auteur Année de publication : 2011 Note générale : Chimie industrielle Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Modeling Desulfurization Résumé : This work mainly involved the investigation of the adsorption of propylmercaptan (PM) on modified bentonite adsorbents. The adsorbents were prepared by loading it separately with Cu2+, Cu+, Fe3+, and MnO4―. In general, these bentonite adsorbents tested for sulfur adsorption capacity at breakthrough followed the order: KMnO4―bentonite > Cu(I)―bentonite > Cu(II)―bentonite > Fe(III)―bentonite. Several factors that influence the desulfurization capability, including loading and baking temperature, were investigated. The results of X-ray diffraction (XRD), nitrogen sorption (BET), thermal analysis (TGA), and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy showed that the ability of modified bentonite to adsorb PM depends strongly on its surface chemistry, particularly on the presence of basic oxygen-containing groups and acid content. The high sulfur capacities of KMnO4―bentonite and Fe(III)―bentonite were because of the powerful oxidization of MnO4― and Fe3+. The high sulfur capacities of Cu(I)―bentonite and Cu(II)―bentonite were due to π-complexation. Titre : Evaluation of laboratory methods for the acquisition of catalyst from fischer–tropsch wax/catalyst mixtures Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Tie-jun Lin, Auteur ; Meng Xuan, Auteur ; Li Shi, Auteur Année de publication : 2013 Article en page(s) : pp. 14511-14516 Note générale : Industrial chemistry Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Wax Catalyst Résumé : Catalyst breakdown by physical attrition and chemical stresses is a problem of great and continuing concern in the slurry phase Fischer―Tropsch Synthesis. To reach a better understanding of the morphology and composition of a working catalyst, it requires first the removal of wax from the catalyst. In this work, Improved Soxhlet Extraction (ISE) in comparison of Standard Soxhlet Extraction was evaluated concerning their separation efficiency and relevancy for characterization of working catalysts. ISE extracted a greater amount of wax and recovered nearly all of the catalyst. In addition, ISE does not change the morphology and particle size distribution of working catalysts whereas Soxhlet extraction fails to reflect the actual information on the catalyst. The ISE is appropriate for the rapid and accurate analysis in plant operation. The catalysts, which contained 3-30 wt % Ni, were prepared via a kneading method. The catalysts were characterized by an array of techniques, including X-ray diffraction (XRD) and H2 temperature-programmed reduction (TPR). The nature of the Ni species on the support, and their interaction with the support, were studied. XRD and TPR studies showed that nickel was present as Ni2+ and Ni3+ species on the support, and that there was no elemental nickel (Ni0) in the unreduced samples. Pretreatment using pure H2 at different temperatures affected the reactivity. Pretreatment at 350 °C for 3 h was the best among the conditions tested. At room temperature, almost 100% olefin conversion was obtained using [BuPy]Br-AlCl3 as the catalyst. The effects of the cation and the dosage of AlCl3 in the ionic liquid were investigated. It was found that the dosage of AlCl3 had a significant impact on the reaction, whereas the organic cation type mainly influenced the conversion. Anions in [BuPy]Br-AlCl3 such as AlCl4- and AlCl7- were shown to exist by ESI-MS, and the mechanism of the reaction catalyzed by [BuPy]Br-AlCl3 was studied. The investigation of various reaction parameters showed that the process saves time, consumes less energy, separates products more easily, and produces less pollution to the environment than conventional methods to remove trace olefins from aromatics. Laboratory experiments and industrial siding tests indicated that the catalyst could improve the conversion of olefins and prolong the lifetime more than the commercial particulate clay. X-ray diffraction proved that the modification did not change the structure to active clay, N2 adsorption-desorption showed a decrease in surface area, and pyridine FTIR suggested that the intercalation of metal halides increased the amount of the total acid, especially the weak Lewis acid.
