Titre : Chemical analysis of essential oil from the leaves of eugenia argentea Bedd. Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Gopan Raj, Auteur ; Varughese George, Auteur ; Mathur G. Sethuraman, Auteur Année de publication : 2011 Article en page(s) : pp. 55-57 Note générale : Génie Chimique Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Eugenia argentea Myrtaceae Leaf oil composition β-caryophyllene δ-cadinene Germacrene-D Index. décimale : 646 Résumé : The essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation of the leaves of Eugenia argentea was analyzed by GC and GC/MS. Thirty-five constituents comprising 98.5% of the oil were identified. The leaf oil was characterized by the abundance of three major classes of sesquiterpenoids, viz. caryophyllanes, cadinanes and germacranes. β-Caryophyllene (18.0%), δ-cadinene (7.8%) and germacrene-D (7.1%) were the major constituents in the leaf oil. No monoterpenes were detected in the leaf oil. Twenty compounds representing 88.8% of the oil were identified. The major constituent in the oil was caryophyllene oxide (49.6%). Monoterpenes were detected in low percentage (1.2%). The oil was tested for antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria as well as against the fungi Candida albicans and C.glabrata. Twenty-two compounds representing 95.2 % of the oil were identified in the analyzed oil from Globba schomburgkii among which b-caryophyllene (31.7%) and caryophyllene oxide (10.3%) were the major constituents.
The oil of G. ophioglossa was characterized by its richness in zerumbone (22.0%) and caryophyllene oxide (21.8%), which were among the 16 components comprising 88.3% of the total oil analyzed.DEWEY : 665 ISSN : 1041-2905 En ligne : http://www.jeoronline.com/archive/detail/51 [article] Essential oil composition of globba schomburgkii hook. f. and globba ophioglossa wight [texte imprimé] / Gopan Raj, Auteur ; Varughese George, Auteur ; Mathew Dan, Auteur . - 2010 . - pp. 220 - 222.

Twenty-eight compounds constituting 99.1% of the analyzed sample were identified. The oil was characterized by the predominance of monoterpenes (61.2%) with limonene (50.3%) as the major constituent. α—Humulene (13.3 %), β—caryophyllene (8.8%) and linalool (3.2%) were the other major components. The oil displayed significant antibacterial activity when tested against Bacillus cereus and moderate activity against Serratia marcescens and Escherichia coli.
