R., Auteur Année de publication : 2011 Article en page(s) : pp. 1654–1666 Note générale : Recherche opérationnelle Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Just-in-time Procurement Inventory Purchasing Lot size Transportation Index. décimale : 001.424 Résumé : Just-in-time (JIT) procurement is one of the important elements of lean production system. Successful implementation of JIT needs vendor-manufacturer cooperation on small lot size delivery and inbound logistics cost reduction. Unlike the most recent literature focusing on single-vendor and single-buyer integrated inventory systems, this paper studies a multi-vendor integrated procurement-production inventory system that incorporates delivery and shared transportation costs. A multi-vendor optimal model is developed here for deciding the batch size of vendor's production, and delivery frequencies of different vendors to the manufacturer. Solution procedures for two special cases—uncapacitated and capacitated models are developed; especially, a new approximate method for capacitated model is devised. Numerical examples demonstrate the solution mechanism for the model. The results highlight cooperation between vendors and manufacturers on JIT procurement practices. Titre : Peak demand forecasting for a seasonal product using Bayesian approach Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Rahman, M. A., Auteur ; Sarker, B. R., Auteur ; Escobar, L. A., Auteur Année de publication : 2011 Article en page(s) : pp. 1019–1028 Note générale : Recherche opérationnelle Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Bayesian forecasting method Seasonal demand Incomplete data set Index. décimale : 001.424 Résumé : An actual demand-forecasting problem of the US apparel dealers is studied. Demand is highly fluctuating during the peak sale season and low prior to the peak season. The model is described by the continuous time stochastic process applying the Bayesian process. The standard gamma distribution is selected for the demand process and an inverse gamma distribution is chosen as the conjugate prior for the model. The choice is supported by the maximum likelihood estimate among a number of non-negative distribution models. The proposed Bayesian models predict the probability of the future demand expressed explicitly conditional on the observed demand prior to the peak season. The data set illustrates partial demand of a seasonal product procured by the US dealers from overseas. In recent years, hazard and operational risks due to weather disasters and equipment shutdowns were felt significantly. These caused supply chain disruption and unrecorded demand. The model is extended to contribute to forecast from an unrecorded data set due to supply disruption. Forecasts are compared with real data and a widely implemented adaptive Holt-Winters (H-W) seasonal forecasting model. Results show that the forecasts calculated by the proposed methods do better than those of the adaptive H-W model. Titre : Single-manufacturer, multi-retailer consignment policy for retailers’ generalized demand distributions Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : J. Yu, Auteur ; Sarker, B. R., Auteur ; Q. Duan, Auteur Année de publication : 2013 Article en page(s) : pp. 1708–1719 Note générale : operational research Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : consignment and traditional policies; stochastic demand; supply chain coordination Index. décimale : 001.424 Résumé : Consignment policy (CP) is a novel approach to the inventory management in supply chains. It is based on strong interaction and reliable collaboration between vendor(s) and buyer(s), which is acquiring growing importance in today's industrial reality. Unlike most literature focusing on single-vendor single-buyer models and deterministic customer demand, a single-manufacturer (vendor) multi-retailer (buyer) generic model is developed under stochastic customer demand in this study. In order to understand the potential benefits of CP, it is compared with a traditional policy (TP) model developed in the similar approach. The models are tested with two scenarios of uniform and exponential demand distributions of the retailers. The results show how CP works better than the traditional uncoordinated optimization. It not only helps the manufacturer to generate higher profit, but also coordinates retailers to achieve a higher supply chain profit. At the same time, each retailer earns at least as much as they do in TP. Further price discount sensitivity analysis demonstrates the efficiency of CP when facing price-demand fluctuation.
