The oil pump assembly consists of a pick-up tube with an inclined inlet that is mounted off-center with the crankshaft symmetry axis. The pick-up tube is connected to the shaft channel, a helical groove machined on the crankshaft that facilitates the supply of lubricant to the bearings. The analytical models for the pick-up tube and shaft channel were developed independently and were coupled via a numerical procedure to determine the steady-state volume flow rate in the assembly. The steady-state results were verified against a CFD model, which was also used to evaluate the fluid flow in the oil pump assembly during a start-up transient. A parametric analysis was conducted to quantify the influence of some oil pump geometric parameters, such as the pick-up tube diameter and the shaft eccentricity. Titre : Fluid flow in a screw pump oil supply system for reciprocating compressors Titre original : Ecoulement du fluide dans le système d'alimentation en huile des pompes à vis de compresseurs à piston Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Marcus V. Machinerie et outils. Réfrigération Résumé : This work presents a mathematical analysis of an oil supply system for reciprocating compressors. The system is based on a single screw pump attached to the bottom end of the vertical rotating shaft immersed in the oil sump. The fluid flow in the pump was modeled with a semi-analytical approach based on the solution for the laminar fully developed oil flow in a screw extruder via the Generalized Integral Transform Technique. The screw pump model is coupled with that for the flow in the shaft region so as to provide an estimate of the oil flow rate and of the so-called ‘climbing-time’, i.e., the amount of time needed for a fluid particle to travel from the oil sump to the top of the shaft. The calculation method was verified against experimental data and Computational Fluid Dynamics modeling results.
