Titre : An analytical prediction for performance and optimum design analysis of porous fins Titre original : Prévision, analytique de la performance et la conception optimale d'ailettes poreuses Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Balaram Kundu, Auteur ; Dipankar Bhanja, Auteur Année de publication : 2011 Article en page(s) : pp. 337-352 Note générale : Génie Mécanique Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Heat exchanger Fin Porous medium Calculation Improvement Performance Index. décimale : 621.5 Energie pneumatique. Machinerie et outils. Réfrigération Résumé : Enhancement of heat transfer rate through porous fins is one of the common choices nowadays. As the energy equation is highly nonlinear, researchers never concentrated on analyzing porous fins analytically. In the present study, an effort has been devoted to develop an analytical model for determination of the performance and optimum dimensions of porous fins with consideration of different models of predictions. Every result has been presented in a comparative way so that the merit of the models adopting in the present work can easily be understood. The optimum design analysis of porous fins has also been carried out. The influences of all the dependent parameters on the performances and optimization conditions have been studied for the selection of a design criterion of porous fins in such applications where the requirement of heat dissipation is essentially high. Note générale : fluids engineering Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : flow (dynamics); turbulence; Reynolds number; pipes; ducts Résumé : The effect of side mass injection on turbulent flow with axial entry to a circular duct in the form of centrally confined jet has been investigated. A standard κ-ε model modified for streamline curvature has been used for detailed analysis following a comparison with a κ-ω model for some test cases. Results show that flow stabilization and relaminarization could occur due to the side injection. The predicted recirculation zone, friction factor, total turbulent energy, turbulent shear stress, Taylor scale Reynolds number, and turbulent energy flux show gradual reduction with increase in the side injection velocity.
