The gas discharge processes which are important to breakdown in SF6 are reviewed.
The various proposals to model the volt-time characteristics of SF6 are described in detail, and the significance of the concepts of critical volume and catchment region is examined. Equipment is developed which allows the impulse testing of SF6 in order to experimentally investigate the model based on critical volume and catchment region. Apparatus to provide some degree of automatic control and recording of breakdown data is developed. |
