| Résumé : | The aim of this thesis is to propose new approach to optimize the blade profile of a horizontal axis wind turbine for specific starting conditions, based on the combination of Blade Element Method and Proper Generalized Decomposition approaches. For this purpose, an algorithm is implemented into MATLAB to optimize the turbine blade profiles along the blade span in order to generate the highest amount of power. The PGD allow us to have control on the desired solution by manipulating some parameters, which constitute practical key aspect for optimization. Since the wind turbine blade power is related to the tangential force coefficient, thus the desired solution, and which can be written as an infinite sum of terms, separation of variables can produce precise solutions with few terms by breaking down a problem into separate parts and solving each independently. For a given selected parameter value, we considered additional optimization criteria such as airfoil thickness, chord-line, and twist angle, in order to sort out an optimized realistic blade design. This work presents a preliminary attempt to implement an innovative methodology by taking a new approach to tackle aerodynamic optimization. Since the present study constitutes one instance among numerous others possibilities to exploit our separation of variables tool, it triggers the first element of chain reaction in terms of optimization investigation and it comprises a key for the future investigation door. Precisely this is what distinguishes the use of PGD from the previous methods in the literature. |
