Résumé : |
The following article deals with methods for obtaining long historical flood time series. By looking at single case studies we will analyze the conditions from AD 1500 onwards as well as their connection with the circulation. Three regional case studies (the Rhine Delta) will examine the conditions from AD 1300 on by means of statistical tests (Poisson Test and t-Test Estimator). The results clearly show fluctuations in the flood frequency, which for certain periods lies above the level of modern development. Modern flood events regularly cause discussions about their frequencies, tendencies and changes in their intensities. Answers to these questions can be found by comparing long series of precipitation and atmospheric circulation patterns with series of severe flood-events. Historical records are an important source for the evaluation of flood risk. Documentary sources - dating back to AD 1300 - provide direct information about floods and their impact on society. |
