This work shows for the first time that it is possible to induce a rapid crystal growth on amorphous inorganic thin film using the AFM tip. The force applied on the AFM tip exerts an enormous pressure on the surface of an amorphous titania thin film. The movement of the tip displaced the spin-coated titania sol and deformed the film. The V-shaped grooves left by the passage of the tip measured 65 nm in width and penetrated 5 nm into the 15 nm thick film. Heat treatment in air at 723 K crystallizes the TiO2. Large TiO2 crystallized on the grooves compared to the surrounding film indicating an anomalous rapid crystal growth. It is speculated that the enormous tip pressure caused a local densification and structural rearrangement of the titania that presage nucleation resulting in a faster crystallization. Note générale : dynamic systems Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : sandwiched deadband; dealing; closed-loop system Résumé : Unlike input deadband, the sandwiched deadband between actuator and plant dynamics is very difficult to be explicitly compensated for due to the proceeding actuator dynamics whose effect may not be negligible. The paper presents a practical way to overcome the design conservativeness of existing methods in dealing with sandwiched deadband. Specifically, a describing function based nonlinear analysis method is proposed to characterize the effect of the sandwiched deadband on the stability and performance of the overall closed-loop system. The analysis results can be used to determine the highest closed-loop bandwidth that can be achieved without inducing residual limit cycles and instability. Optimal controller parameters can then be found to maximize the achievable closed-loop control performance. The technique is applied to an electrohydraulic system controlled by closed-center valves and a nonlinear feedback controller. Simulation results showed severe oscillations as the feedback control gains are increased to the predicted threshold values. Comparative experimental results also showed the effectiveness of the proposed method in reducing the conservativeness of traditional design and the improved closed-loop control performance in implementation. Note générale : Industrial chemistry Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Cable-braced grid shell Initial imperfection Stability Continuum analogy Résumé : A cable-braced grid shell is a new type of single-layer latticed shell suitable for glass roofs. Compared with traditional single-layer latticed shells, this new type of shell has a unique mesh shape (planar quadrilateral mesh), mesh form (steel and crossing cables), and surface shape (from the translation surface method). The grid shell is a single-layer latticed structure, and therefore stability is one of the key factors in the structural design. Therefore, in this paper, an elliptic paraboloid cable-braced grid shell with imperfections is used as an example with which to determine the formulas for the buckling load based on the continuum analogy. The main contents of this paper include the formula for the linear buckling load of an elliptic paraboloid cable-braced grid shell with imperfections, which is determined based on the continuum analogy. The equivalent rigidity for the cable-braced grid shell is then determined, and the effect of the cables on the shear rigidity is discussed. Finally, the formula for the linear buckling load is verified with numerical examples, and the errors are analyzed and a corresponding correction factor is given.
