Don), which is speculated approximately 3000 years in soil, was obtained and first time analyzed by GC and GC/MS. Thirty-one sesquiterpenes and six diterpenes were identified in the essential oils of the bogwood stump, and eight components remained unidentified. The main identified components of the bogwood were T-cadinol (12.8%), δ-cadinene (10.5%) and 1-epi-cubenol (8.1%). The oils of the green stump of C. japonica were used as a reference and the main components of the oils were 1-epi-cubenol (23.3%), δ-cadinene (16.8%) and cubenol (11.6%). Monoterpene hydrocarbons (40.4%) were the main components, followed by alcohols (27.1%). Ketones, aldehydes and an acetate (4.9%, 3.5% and 8.0%, respectively) were minor components.
