Titre : Chemical composition of the essential oils and the odor of thymus pulegioides L. growing wild in vilnius Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Danute Mockute, Auteur ; Genovaite Bernotiene, Auteur Année de publication : 2006 Article en page(s) : pp. 415-418 Note générale : Génie Chimique Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Thymus pulegioides Labiatae Essential oil composition p-cymene γ-terpinene Neral Geraniol Geranial β-caryophyllene β-bisabolene Résumé : Thymus pulegioides L. ssp pulegioides samples were collected in 1995–1999 in Vilnius city according to their odors. Five chemotypes of the essential oils were identified: 1) citral/geraniol chemotype (“lemon” odor): citral (neral + geranial, 18.4–30.2%), geraniol (14.4–23.2%), β-caryophyllene (9.4–13.1%) and nerol (5.5–12.1%); 2) geraniol chemotype (“sweet” odor): geraniol (23.1–25.5%), β-caryophyllene (10.8–13.5%) and β-bisabolene (9.5–10.2%); 3) caryophyllene chemotype (“spicy” odor): β-caryophyllene (18.0–19.7%), β-bisabolene (14.5–15.9%), germacrene D (12.5–14.6%) and (E)-nerolidol (8.2–13.8%); 4) γ-terpinene/p-cymene chemotype (“hydrocarbon” odor): γ-terpinene (15.5–17.2%), p-cymene (7.7–17.0%), carvacrol (4.6–13.5%) and β-caryophyllene (9.6–10.5%); 5) carvacrol chemotype (“phenolic” odor): carvacrol (24.4–33.3%), β-caryophyllene (9.5–14.9%) and β-bisabolene (10.5–12.9%). The caryophyllene and γ-terpinene/p-cymene chemotypes were not observed earlier in Thymus pulegioides L. About the half of the oils were consisted of sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (48.8–62.2%). The oils from fresh dried plants were of the germacrene D (26.6–35.1%) chemotype. The other main constituents were β-caryophyllene (5.8–9.0%) and α-humulene (6.4–9.2%). Forty-nine identified compounds made up 73.1–84.8% of the oils. More than half of the oils were rich in sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (56.5–67.9%). The most predominant compound was germacrene D (14.1–20.7%). The other main constituents were γ-elemene (9.0–16.0%), β-elemene (8.7–12.9%), phytols (2.8–15.6%), (Z)-β-ocimene (2.2–8.5%), 1,8-cineole (92.2–5.4%), β-ylangene (2.7–4.1%) and germacrene B (2.2–3.9%). Forty-three identified compounds made up 89.1–96.2%.
