Doubly symmetric I beamsIndex. décimale : Ms00186 Résumé : This thesis is concerned with the problem of flexural-torsional or lateral instability of monosymmetric I-beams.
A theoretical and experimental investigation on the subject has been carried out.
The energy approach has been used to obtain solutions for the flexural-torsional instability of monosymmetric I beams, including the influence of pre-buckling displacement, and initial imperfections or pre-camber in the plane of major axis bending.
Forty-six welded small-scale model beams, including fourteen doubly symmetric I beams, sixteen monosymmetric I beams and sixteen T beams have been tested.
All the beams were simply supported and loaded by a central concentrated load applied on the top flange.
The test results are compared with existing design curves for laterally unrestrained beams recommended by the European Convention for Constructional Steelwork (ECCS) and the British Standard Specification for the Structural Steelwork in Building.
The lower bound design curve recommended by ECCS is in good agreement with the test data presented in this thesis.Instability and strength of monosymmetric i beams [texte imprimé] / Mohamed Benchiha, Auteur ; T.
