From the large nomber of industries in which French Government has played an important role, three have been selected for study: steel, nuclear and automobile.
They have been chosen to represent both the manufacturing and energy sectors, as well as the failure and the success of industrial policy.
Such was the importance of the policy of nationalisation adopted by the Socialist government (1981-86), that we must include a fourth case study, namely the development and importance of the public industrial sector.
Before moving onto these case studies, we must consider:
1/ The present position of French industry in the economy.
2/ An outline of the industrial policy in the period studied.
In conclusion, the effects of industrial policy on industry will be discussed with reference to examples from the case studies.Industrial policy in France, 1973-85 [texte imprimé] / Abdennacer Moussi, Auteur ; T.
