Three different leak detection schemes are described in the first part of the thesis.
The first method is based on the application of a model adjustment procedure to the Distributed Parameter (DP) system governing the gas flow process.
In the other two methods, the estimation and localisation of the leak is achieved by using a Kalman filter for the DP system.
Simulated observations are used to assess and compare the various methods.
The second part of the thesis proposes a new approach for identifying sensor faults in large scale systems, using over-lapping decomposition and decentralised state estimation.
A system with three sensors is used to illustrate the approach.Failure identification methods for detecting leaks in pipelines and sensor faults [texte imprimé] / Benkherouf, Abdelkrim, Auteur ; A. Y. Allidina, Directeur de thèse . - Manchester : [s.n.], 1985 . - 152 f. : ill. ; 30 cm.

Scheduling problemIndex. décimale : Ms01384 Résumé : In this dissertation the sequencing of the packing activity subject to constraints in large detergent plants is considered and a solution is obtained using expert systems techniques.
The general topology of such plants is of processing-storing-processing type.
The sequencing of the packing activity is a part of an overall solution for the scheduling problem for this type of plants using novel approaches.
This overall scheduling philosophy is also described in this dissertation.Sequencing of the packing activity in large detergent plant [texte imprimé] / K. Belarbi, Auteur ; M. G. Singh, Directeur de thèse ; A. Y. Allidina, Directeur de thèse . - Manchester : [s.n.], 1984 . - 56 f. : ill. ; 30 cm.
