Polymer matrixIndex. décimale : D003984 Résumé : The purpose of this work was to study the feasibility of plasticising poly(vinyl chloride)(PVC) by polymerising within it various methacrylic ester monomers whose polymers might plasticise the resin.
Most of the work was carried out with n-butyl methacrylate (nBMA) monomer, whose polymer has been reported to form compatible blends with PVC by some researchers, whereas others claim incompatibility.
The articles were prepared by a direct process of thermo fabrication of PVC compounded with nBMA monomer whose polymerisation was initiated by a free-radical initiator.
The fabrication process used throughout was that of compression moulding which superseded attempts to blend the different components on a two-roll mill, followed by compression moulding which proved unsuccessful.Plastication by polymerisation within a polymer matrix : a study of the polymerisation of monomeric acrylate esters within a poly (vinyl chloride) matrix, and of the structure, thermal and mechanical properties of the products.
