Titre : Comparison of generalised cost between taxis and buses Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Taleb, S., Auteur ; Ian-G. Black, Directeur de thèse Editeur : Cranfield : [s.n.] Année de publication : 1986 Importance : 87 f. Présentation : ill. Format : 30 cm. Note générale : Thèse d'état : Étude du transport : Cranfield,Institute of Technology : 1986
Bibliogr. [2] f. Annexe f. 90 - 95Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Cost ; Taxis ; Buses ; Comparison Index. décimale : M005686 Résumé : Running a bus service in an area where the level of demand is low raises the problem of nigh fares for the passengers, and therfore, the possibility of further declining of revenuue due to falling patronage.
Examining other ways of meeting the demand for transport at a lower cost for the users is necessary. The mode of transport wich will be compared to that of the bus is the taxi mode.
The interest of the present study consists of evaluationg for each mode, the passanger's generalised cost per trip and point at the one wich turns out to be the cheapest in financial terms, the generalised cost includes walking, waiting, riding and operating cost per passenger.
The first objective of the study is to evaluate the minimum generalised cost per passenger and by mode, considering a given level of demand and then, compare the outputs. The analysis of the model results indicate that the bus service is more convenient to the user in terms of the generalised cost but that under other circumstances, a taxi service might well offer a higher financial adavntage to the would-be passenger
Various sensitivity tests are carried out to examine the changes in the model optimum outputs, due to the variations of some of the assumptions and simple input parameters
It was found that the model is sensitive to the variation in the value of the operating cost but not so much in the value of time.Comparison of generalised cost between taxis and buses [texte imprimé] / Taleb, S., Auteur ; Ian-G. Titre : Containerisation of algerian trade and its implications Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Amrouche, Abdenour, Auteur ; Ian-G. Black, Directeur de thèse Editeur : Cranfield : [s.n.] Année de publication : 1983 Importance : 77 f. Présentation : ill. Format : 27 cm. Note générale : Mémoire de Magistère : Economie : Cranfield, Institute of Technology : 1983
Bibliogr. [2] f. Annexe f. 80 - 91Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Containerisation ; Algeria ; Ports ; Imports-exports ; Investment Index. décimale : M005883 Résumé : The aid of this study was determine the physical and financial requirements of containerisation for the algerian external trade. to do so an analysis of the present general cargo imports has been carried out and a trend has been determined over the last decade. The projection of general cargo imports obtained on the basis of this trend have been used in the determination of the physical requirements, that is to say location of contrainer ports, berth and port terminals, inland terminals, handing equipements and maritime and inland means of transport.
The evaluation of the investment, as compared against the break bulk system, shows an extra cost wich represents about 50% of the investment needed by the same growth of the external trade if Algeria did not adopt containerisation.
But when compared with savings generated by containerisation, the marginal cost brings 324% of savings.
The results obtained confirmed the efficiency of the container system, while evidence exists already.
The conclusion reached by the study is that the introduction of containerisation, together with other related measures, will certainly help to solve the problem of port obstruction and will improve the efficiency of the whole transport system.Containerisation of algerian trade and its implications [texte imprimé] / Amrouche, Abdenour, Auteur ; Ian-G.
