Bath-Bristol regionIndex. décimale : Ms01584 Résumé : In his introduction to the english translation of alexandre collin's book on 'landslides in clay strata' (1846) skempton (1956) pointed out that the understanding of the mechanism of landslides has been a slow process which first commenced with coulomb's demonstration of the friction strength characteristics of granular materials (1773).
However, with the recognition of the importance of pre-existing shear discontinuities occuring in areas of old landslips, the use of residual strength helped to 'reproduce' the in-situ conditions in a more satisfactory manner.
This realised a major step forward in the assessment of many natural slope stability problems.Laboratory measurement & field assessment of residual shear strength with reference to soil deposits in the Bath-Bristol region [texte imprimé] / Salim Kouloughli, Auteur ; A.
