Transport
Problem Algiers BusIndex. décimale : Ms01685 Résumé : In developing countries, the availability of adequate transport facilities is of considerable importance, the existence of an efficient transport system can be an iportant factor for stimulating economic growth.
In general, the main cities in thee regions are characterised by a rapid growth of population and an important migration from rural areas caused by the unsatisfactory conditions in the rural surroundings and also the pull exerted by potential economic and socieal opportuities existing in an urban center.
As a result, the authorities at a national or local level are faced with the necessity to cope with the demand for transport with the constrains of infrastructure, time and fonancial costs.
In many cases it seems that public transport is viewed as a means of solving urban transport problems.
Buses, wich are the major from of public transport, are subjected to very long traffic congestion delays with all the consequences for the operator on its operations and patronage. So, possible solutions to improvement of transport system have to be sought.
In fact, they are various and one has to think of the most appropriate according to the characteristics of the city and the constrains already given.
One possibility consists in refining the existing system by eliminating some of its weaknesses using bus priority policies.
The policy measure the present study will look at is the implementation of an exclusive busway system.
A busway is a separate track or part of a roadway allocated to the use of bus operation only.Examination of the consequences of introduction of a Bus-Only Road in a major urban area [texte imprimé] / Ouadi, M., Auteur ; John, Mervyn, Directeur de thèse . - Cranfield : [s.n.], 1985 . - 81 f. : ill. ; 30 cm.

CostsIndex. décimale : Ms01585 Résumé : Location, rent and transport are inter-related developpements are to be located at sites wich incur minimum costs, locational theory has lacked a detailed consideration of the location of developpements in relation to the transport system.
Using an example of an office block for which the only production input costs of providing working space for the employees, the study shows that there exists a location wich minimises both costs.
The derivation of transport cost necessitated the use of 3 stages in the modelling process.
These are trip generation/attraction, mondal choice and trip assigment.
Both analytical and numerical techniques were used to derive ret and transport cost per employee per annum.
The results show that the optimal location was acheived for each of the rental cost alternatives cosidered and that the variation of any of the two costs affects the optimum location.Travel to work : costs and office location [texte imprimé] / Samia Ounzab, Auteur ; Seaton, R.A.F., Directeur de thèse . - Cranfield : [s.n.], 1985 . - 52 f. : ill. ; 30 cm.

AlgeriaIndex. décimale : Ms00483 Résumé : Algeria is a developing country with a centrally planned economy.
Transport as wel as all major industrial firms are state owned monopolies.
These conditions allow for large prospects for the co-ordination of transport services.
This study aims at evaluating the main elements which affect the co-ordination of freight transport between the road and rail modes.
These elements are integrated in a cost model which is itself part of modal split model.
Resources cost minimisation is the main principale behind this freight co-ordination.
The results of this study show that co-ordination on the basis of cost minimisation and the specialisation of the two modes concerned, would be advantageous.Coordination of freight transport between road and rail in Algeria [texte imprimé] / Mazouz, Omar, Auteur ; Mary Benwell, Directeur de thèse . - Cranfield : [s.n.], 1983 . - 75 f. : ill. ; 30 cm.

Annexe f. 90 - 95Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Cost ; Taxis ; Buses ; Comparison Index. décimale : M005686 Résumé : Running a bus service in an area where the level of demand is low raises the problem of nigh fares for the passengers, and therfore, the possibility of further declining of revenuue due to falling patronage.
Examining other ways of meeting the demand for transport at a lower cost for the users is necessary. The mode of transport wich will be compared to that of the bus is the taxi mode.
The interest of the present study consists of evaluationg for each mode, the passanger's generalised cost per trip and point at the one wich turns out to be the cheapest in financial terms, the generalised cost includes walking, waiting, riding and operating cost per passenger.
The first objective of the study is to evaluate the minimum generalised cost per passenger and by mode, considering a given level of demand and then, compare the outputs. The analysis of the model results indicate that the bus service is more convenient to the user in terms of the generalised cost but that under other circumstances, a taxi service might well offer a higher financial adavntage to the would-be passenger
Various sensitivity tests are carried out to examine the changes in the model optimum outputs, due to the variations of some of the assumptions and simple input parameters
It was found that the model is sensitive to the variation in the value of the operating cost but not so much in the value of time.Comparison of generalised cost between taxis and buses [texte imprimé] / Taleb, S., Auteur ; Ian-G. Transport systemIndex. décimale : Ms00585 Résumé : This thesis use the criteria of service level in developing a method for determining the appropriate vehicle fleet size, in a situation where there is no opportunity to hire in additional vehicles.
A transport system operating with specified levels of priorities is built up to cope with demands classified according to their importance: this importance is seen from the point of wiew of urgency of need, type of products and customer importance.
A computer based model is developed to test different priority strategies.
By varying vehicle fleet size, different levels of service are achieved and assessed.
The results show that a transport system based on various levels of priorities is worth considering when vehicle fleet requirements are under review. How vehicle fleet size is affected by level of service requirements [texte imprimé] / Lhocine Ould Saada, Auteur ; M.
