However, very few results exist in the area of systematically converting a general nonlinear system with two inputs to a chained form. This paper presents an algorithm for the conversion of a class of nonlinear systems with two inputs to a high-order chained, or generalized chained, form. The feedback transformation accomplishing this conversion is derived, provided certain conditions hold, by solving a system of partial differential equations. The proposed algorithm is illustrated by means of a physically motivated example, namely an under-actuated surface vessel.

The objective of an SI fueling control system is to guarantee a prespecified air–fuel (A/F) ratio, despite changing driver demands commanded through the throttle. The controller identification process is based on standard system identification tools and is comprised of three steps. The first step involves the design and implementation of a repetitive feedback controller. Next, the engine is subjected to a prespecified periodic throttle motion for which the repetitive controller achieves precise A/F control as t-->[infinity]. Finally, using the engine speed, the mass air flow, and the fuel pulsewidth information during precise fueling conditions, the feedforward fueling controller is identified using standard parametric system identification tools. This identification process can be performed during engine warm-up, thereby enabling a rapid determination of the fueling requirements as a function of temperature. Experimental validation is provided on a 1999 Ford 4.6L V-8 fuel injected engine with sequential port injection.

Note générale : Systèmes dynamiques Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Diesel engines Nitrogen compounds Nonlinear control systems Predictive control Index. décimale : 629.8 Résumé : This paper describes a two-level nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) scheme for diesel engine lean NOx trap (LNT) regeneration control. Based on the physical insights into the LNT operational characteristics, a two-level NMPC architecture with the higher-level for the regeneration timing control and the lower-level for the regeneration air to fuel ratio profile control is proposed. A physically based and experimentally validated nonlinear LNT dynamic model is employed to construct the NMPC control algorithms. The control objective is to minimize the fuel penalty induced by LNT regenerations while keeping the tailpipe NOx emissions below the regulations. Based on the physical insights into the LNT system dynamics, different choices of cost function were examined in terms of the impacts on fuel penalty and tailpipe NOx slip amount. The designed control system was evaluated on an experimentally validated vehicle simulator, cX-Emissions, with a 1.9 l diesel engine model through the FTP75 driving cycle. Compared with a conventional LNT control strategy, 31.9% of regeneration fuel penalty reduction was observed during a single regeneration. For the entire cold-start FTP75 test cycle, a 28.1% of tailpipe NOx reduction and 40.9% of fuel penalty reduction were achieved. These systems are composed of a set of $m$ subchains that are weakly coupled. Using results already available in the literature one formulates a limit control problem the solution of which can be obtained via an associated nondifferentiable convex programming (NDCP) problem. The technique used to solve the NDCP problem is the Analytic Center Cutting Plane Method (ACCPM) which implements a dialogue between, on one hand, a master program computing the analytical center of a localization set containing the solution and, on the other hand, an oracle proposing cutting planes that reduce the size of the localization set at each main iteration. The interesting aspect of this implementation comes from two characteristics: (i) the oracle proposes cutting planes by solving reduced sized Markov Decision Problems (MDP) via a linear program (LP) or a policy iteration method; (ii) several cutting planes can be proposed simultaneously through a parallel implementation on $m$ processors. The correspondence concentrates on these two aspects and shows, on a large scale MDP obtained from the numerical approximation “À la Kushner-Dupuis” of a singularly perturbed hybrid stochastic control problem, the important computational speed-up obtained.
- 2325-2331 p.

Two types of multi-objective optimizers are compared; the MOEA nondominated sorting genetic algorithm II and a hybrid-game strategy are implemented to produce a set of optimal collision-free trajectories in a three-dimensional environment. The resulting trajectories on a three-dimensional terrain are collision-free and are represented by using Bézier spline curves from start position to target and then target to start position or different positions with altitude constraints. The efficiency of the two optimization methods is compared in terms of computational cost and design quality. Numerical results show the benefits of adding a hybrid-game strategy to a MOEA and for a MPPS.
