Titre : Visual and Tactile-Based Terrain Analysis Using a Cylindrical Mobile Robot Titre original : Analyse Basée Visuelle et Tactile de Terrain à l'Aide d'un Robot Mobile Cylindrique Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Reina, Giulio, Auteur ; Foglia, Mario M., Auteur ; Milella, Annalisa ; Gentile, Angelo Article en page(s) : 165-170 p. Note générale : Génie Mécanique Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Robot mobile autonome Exploration planétaire Méthode de commande Planification Robot mobile cylindrique Index. décimale : 629.8 Résumé : Ground autonomous mobile robots have important applications, such as reconnaissance, patrol, planetary exploration, and military applications. In order to accomplish tasks on rough terrain, control and planning methods must consider the physical characteristics of the vehicle and of its environment. Failure to understand these characteristics could lead to vehicle endangement and consequent mission failure. This paper describes recent and current work at the Politecnico of Bari in collaboration with the University of Lecce in the area of deformable terrain mobility and sensing. A cylindrical mobile robot is presented and its rolling motion on terrain is studied from a theoretical and experimental prospect. A comprehensive model is developed taking into account the interaction of the vehicle with the terrain and the related dynamic ill effects, such as rolling resistance and slip, and it is experimentally validated. An unconventional application of the vehicle serving as a tactile sensor is discussed and experimental results are presented showing the effectiveness of the cylindrical mobile robot in estimating the properties of homogeneous, deformable terrain, which in turn can be used to assess the vehicle traversability

Note générale : Dynamic systems Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Uncertain nonlinear systems Self-excited systems Modeling Prediction Generalized polynominal chaos Wiener-haar chaos Mallat algorithm Nonintrusive approaches Index. décimale : 629.8 Résumé : This paper deals with the modeling and the prediction of the dynamic behavior of uncertain nonlinear systems. An efficient method is proposed to treat these problems. It is based on the Wiener–Haar chaos concept resulting from the polynomial chaos theory and it generalizes the use of the multiresolution analysis well known in the signal processing theory. The method provides a powerful tool to describe stochastic processes as series of orthonormal piecewise functions whose weighting coefficients are identified using the Mallat pyramidal algorithm. This paper shows that the Wiener–Haar model allows an efficient description and prediction of the dynamic behavior of nonlinear systems with probabilistic uncertainty in parameters. Its contribution, compared to the representation using the generalized polynomial chaos model, is illustrated by evaluating the two models via their application to the problems of the modeling and the prediction of the dynamic behavior of a self-excited uncertain nonlinear system. Note générale : Automatique Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Integral quadratic constraint (IQC) Nonlinear stability Contrainte quadratique intégrale (IQC) Stabilité non linéaire Programmation quadratique Index. décimale : 629.8 Résumé : In constrained linear model predictive control, a quadratic program must be solved on-line at each control step, and this constitutes a nonlinearity. If zero is a feasible point for this quadratic program then the resultant nonlinearity is sector bounded. We show that if the nonlinearity is static then it is also monotone and slope restricted; hence, we show the existence of Zames-Falb multipliers for such a nonlinearity. The multipliers may be used in a general and versatile analysis of the robust stability of input constrained model predictive control.
